Four years ago, Kelly came to Living Grace Homes, pregnant with her first child. But she didn't stay. As you may recall from previous stories, Kelly wanted stay with the father of her child, and chose to continue an unhealthy relationship with her son's dad.
A second child was born a year later and Kelly cycled in and out of homelessness with her "dude", most often living in their unlicensed, unregistered car. They were taking care of the boys to the best of their ability, but drug use and irresponsibility won out over safety, and this all came to a halt in July of 2018.
The police pulled over their unlicensed, unregistered car, arrested a 4 month pregnant Kelly and the 'Dude', found drug paraphernalia in Kelly's purse, and took them both to jail. The two babies were taken to Child Haven and placed in Foster Care.
After two months in jail, Kelly came out with a burning desire to turn her life around and get her babies back. She is still in love with the 'Dude' and wants so much for him to get his life together as well, but she is not waiting on him.
Since coming to Living Grace Homes in early October of 2018, Kelly has been laser focused on completing her case plan. In December of 2019, she delivered her third healthy baby boy. In an unusual, but welcome, turn of events, she was able to bring her baby boy home with her. Three days before Christmas, what an amazing Christmas gift!
In the 2 years that Kelly has been at Living Grace Homes, Kelly had her children returned to her custody, earned her GED, had her CPS case closed, and has been working full time since the beginning of this year. She is looking forward to moving into her own place before the end of the year!
