Chryssa at Christmas was supposed to be a happy time with family. Then Chryssa found out she was pregnant, and ended up on the streets. We picked her up late at night, just five nights before Christmas. The rest of the story was all hers.
It was just a few days before Christmas. While finishing up a family Christmas shopping trip, an e-mail came in at about 8:30 PM." I'm a few weeks pregnant, when I told my boyfriend he told be to get rid of "it" or get out. So I got out." She went on to say that she had been mostly sleeping on the streets for two weeks, she was cold and needed a safe place to go.
By the time we dropped everyone off and got to where we agreed to meet, it was 10:30 PM. Not knowing if she was a safe person to bring to the house late at night, we took her to Sunset Station and got a room.
The next morning we picked her up, took her to First Choice for a pregnancy test, and then to Living Grace Home.
Chryssa was surprised that only two days after arriving, she was able to enjoy the plenty from the lavish Christmas party provided by so many of our generous donors and board members!
Shortly after Christmas she started working at the Wendy's around the corner but after a few weeks of not very many hours, she applied with RDI and began working there in mid February.
That was Christmas of 2018. Chryssa moved into her own apartment, bought a car, and is still working at RDI. 2 years later, she and her son are well on the way to making a great life for themselves.
